death by hypothermia

Color Atlas Of Hypothermia In Poultry

Hypothermia is a condition when body temperature drop down below normal level of poultry. its also called cold stress. normal temperature of poultry 41-42 Celsius. So hypothermia occurred when temperature getting down it. Its most common problems for chicks age between 01-14 days when environmental temperatures dropped below 15 Celsius.

External Finding

huddle chicks aside specially day light area due to  imbalance temperature in poultry house  thus create hypothermia & birds huddle in winter season.

Body surface near abdomen became red in color when chicks involved severe piling
Feather & skin of chicks became moist  & alopecic
Sometimes unfeathered area of chicks are seen in severe piling by huddling together at one place
pendulous crop of chicks
Feed remain undigested due to birds refused cold water at night time (15°C) & died in morning when fresh water coming
Crop remain full with feed due to digestion not possible when temperature drop down below 18°C & birds busy in huddling at night in winter season

Internal Findings

ruptured right aorta of heart after huddle by hypothermia
Accumulation of blood on heart auricle. In severe hypothermic condition body needs  excees heat for maintaining balancing inside & outside temperature Thu why heart became highly pressurised to increase blood flow but unable & ruptured blood vessels in winter.
airsacculitis are common during hypothermia in winter season
Ruptured of right aorta when birds forcefully pumped the heart to increase blood supply to extremities for production of heat in cold stress.
lung congested in chicks
severe congestion of lungs when excessive respiration to increase metabolism by which produced heat in hypothermic condition
blood in lung after huddling by hypothermia in winter season
Profuse mucus secretion as well as bloody discharge in lung followed by ruptured rights aorta
hepatocyte became freezing  when blood supplies  in liver
destruction of hepatocytes by abrupt blood followed by ischemic necrosis that why liver became, harden , increase in size, wide area of necrosis & discolor  death after huddling
white necrotic focci in liver
white necrotic foci, increase lobulation
& shaped of liver in chicks
kidney damage in poultry
kindney became severe  inflammed due to increased it’s activity during hypothermic stage in severe cold.
pale, thin, & empty intestine are found in chicks getting huddle during night in winter.
Frothy & ballooning of intestine due to acidosis when birds deprived water in winter
